Self-service gas stations didn’t come about because companies and employees were lazy and didn’t want to help customers. It was offered as an option. For years, those self-service gas stations still had the option of full service. For the most part, however, those have gone away, and that’s because people preferred the self-service option. It’s also because the gas stations offered an incentive. We could save a few pennies for each gallon we were willing to pump ourselves.
