ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Buffalo Bills linebacker Preston Brown began his education in football as a youngster, spending time with his father poring over game film in the basement of their home.
Now, at 22, the son of a Cincinnati-area high school coach is being asked to take command of Rex Ryan’s high-priced defence.
Ryan noted Brown’s background and high football IQ as a reason he’s confident the second-year player will be capable to start in the middle and call plays in the huddle.
Brown believes he’s ready, too, after the third-round pick out of Louisville had a team-best 108 tackles as a rookie last season.
The Bills have such faith in Brown’s ability that they dealt linebacker Kiko Alonso to Philadelphia to acquire running back LeSean McCoy in March.
