The entire
Blackhawks-Minnesota
series will get NBC/NBCSN’s lead announce team of Mike Emrick, Eddie
Olczyk and Pierre McGuire. It makes sense since the Chicago market
delivers the most viewers in the
NHL.
During
the regular season, Blackhawks games on NBC/NBCSN averaged 212,000
households in Chicago, the highest for all local markets. The
Blackhawks’ Chicago rating is 33 percent higher than for the
Rangers in New York (160,000 households).
NBC’s
two opening playoff round games featuring the Blackhawks drew 457,000
average households in Chicago, up 60 percent from New York’s average
rating for a Penguins/Rangers game (286,000 households).
The
Blackhawks’ Game 6 clincher against Nashville did a national average of
2.4 million viewers during prime time last Saturday on NBC, a huge
number for an opening round series. Chicago accounted for 477,000
households.
Little wonder why NBC/NBCSN wants its lead team on the Blackhawks.
Olczyk,
though, missed Game 1 Friday. The avid horseman will be part of NBC’s
coverage of the Kentucky Derby Saturday. He will return for Game 2
Sunday.
